Battles are fought on a grid where each monster's movement range and skill range decide every turn. That suits players who plan positions before they act. Defeated monsters sometimes stand up and join the party, and levels, ranks, skills and equipment can all be upgraded. An auto mode covers simple fights, and Battle Road stages cost no stamina. Play is built around the Dragon Quest cast, so the series' monsters and world are the main draw.
